Dennis Grinds Out 6th Place at Music City posted Apr 10, 2013

Dennis and his Schoenfeld Racing Team returned from Nashville's Fairgrounds Speedway Sunday with an outstanding 6th place finish in the inaugural Southern Super Series 125 lap event. Pre-event practice sessions allowed Dennis and crew the time to fine-tune spring/shock combinations and really dial-in the suspension setup. "It's critical to get your stagger and suspension as precise as possible because these races are really sprints to the finish, eventhough there's a competition caution at lap 75" Dennis revealed.

With special help from long-time racer Teddy Musgrave Jr., Tommy Denne and Kyle Hollis, Dennis had one of his better qualifying efforts registering 11th fastest time. Saturday night's field included thirty-one Super Late Model racers with such noteables as Mike Garvey, Bubba Pollard, Augie Grill and John Hunter Nemechek all taking a place on the starting grid.

At the drop of the green flag Dennis commenced one of his patented steady race paces. Quickly moving into the top-10, Dennis felt the car was just a little tight but manageable. Racing within the competitive top-10, Dennis battled with the best and just prior to the lap-75 competition caution, Dennis was in a solid 7th. During the 10-minute caution period teams could make any adjustments and change a maximumof two tires. Dennis conferred with his crew and decided to free the car up just a little. By lap 94 Dennis was in 6th and on lap 102 he broke into the top five just as a red flag flew for a crash and resulting fuel cell fire. On the restart, Garvey was a little off the pace which made for a mad scramble ahead of Dennis. Dennis battledwith Hunter Robbins for several laps and regained 5th on lap 116. Another caution flew for a spinning car on lap 119 but not before Stephen Nasse had gotten passed Dennis for 5th. The green flew for the final time with 6 laps to go and Dennis fought hard but finished 6th at the checkers.

"It was a great run for us, we just got a little too loose after the break and I probably burnt up the right rear trying to get back to the front," Dennis alluded int the post-race interview. " I can't thank all of our sponsors enough and especially Teddy Musgrave Jr., Tommy Denne and Kyle Hollis. Of course the heart and soul of our team is my wife Bonnie and son's Dennis Jr. and Michael, fresh off his trip to Vegas for his 21st Birthday."
